Comprehensive Family Support for Managing the Child’s Mental Health

Welcome

Raising children with special needs is not easy, and finding the right kind of help can often be a daunting task. While obtaining an accurate diagnosis and receiving effective treatment are good indicators of therapeutic success, in the end, it's all about connection.

As a child psychologist with over 40 years of experience, my goal is to establish a positive therapeutic connection that is based on mutual trust, understanding, and respect. This can only be accomplished when both children and parents feel heard and understood. When such a connection is established, people can then be inspired to think and act in ways that will be both beneficial and transformative, making them more able to achieve their goals and lead a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

If you have a child who is struggling academically, socially, and/or emotionally and is feeling overwhelmed by their struggles, I can help.

Support for Accurate Diagnosis and Effective Therapy

If your child has been diagnosed with ADHD, placed on medication, and is continuing to struggle, perhaps he or she has been misdiagnosed. If your child has been in therapy but is not progressing, there may be something missing in the therapeutic connection or in the accuracy of the diagnosis.

If you're looking for support and guidance in better understanding your child, knowing how to best deal with your child's issues, and being able to effectively advocate for your child, I would welcome the opportunity to help you achieve your goals.

Please call or e-mail me to see how I might be of service to you and your child.

I am a New York State licensed psychologist who has provided psychotherapy and psychological testing services to children, adolescents, and adults for over 40 years. During that time, I have developed a particular interest and expertise in working with hypersensitive children with anxiety and mood disorders and in the differential diagnosis of ADHD and Bipolar Disorder.

As a psychologist in private practice who has treated over 3000 children, adolescents, and young adults during my career, I have had many patients come to me with a diagnosis of ADHD. More often than not, a thorough psychological evaluation, which typically involves an in-depth interview and psychological testing, reveals an underlying anxiety or mood disorder and not ADHD. As there are many overlapping symptoms in ADHD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Bipolar Disorder, misdiagnosis can occur quite frequently.

In working with children and adolescents, I have found that the establishment of a strong therapeutic connection and accurate diagnosis are the keys to providing effective treatment. A strong therapeutic connection can only be established in an atmosphere of mutual trust, understanding, and respect, where children are made to feel important and are taken seriously. With such a connection, people can be inspired to think differently, which can then lead to longer-lasting behavioral changes. The process of connection can also help foster greater depth of understanding, accuracy of perception, and clarity of vision, leading to an enhanced sense of control, more effective problem-solving, and an overall sense of well-being.
